The Best Styles In Golden Globe History

One of the greatest nights of the year in the fashion world is the Golden Globes! Because of the pandemic, we’re unfortunately going to miss these exclusive occasions featuring all the splendor of haute couture and watching glamorous icons dripping in high fashion creations. As this ceremony takes place in January and marks the beginning of the award season, I will be presenting my finest and all-time best-dressed guests at the Golden Globes awards since 2010. Every year, I look forward to seeing all these gatherings from the Emmy’s to the Oscar’s and living vicariously through the star-studded actors draped in designer gowns, jewels, and accessories. Seeing as this year is quite different, I absolutely cannot wait to revisit the last ten years and analyze all the best styles I’ve seen over the decade.

2010: January Jones in Lanvin

Mad Men‘s 60s queen looked completely chic and classic in the all-black Lanvin design with a stylish shoulder flourish ruffle finish and a silk headband placed across her shiny blonde locks. Jones held her look fresh with sparkling wide diamond bangles and red lipstick to enhance the style and add a pop of hot color! Black is literally always in trend, and while this design is over a decade old, I’d wear it now! Much like her character, Betty Draper, this glamorous styling exudes elegance.

2011: Anne Hathaway in Armani Privé

Anne Hathaway was channeling her inner Andrea Sachs in this long-sleeved Armani Privé number. The gown was entirely embroidered with shimmering Swarovski crystals and sequins. This amber tone gown was supremely sophisticated, with a long sleeve as well as a bold puff on the shoulder and a deep open back to reveal a flap of flesh in this otherwise modest piece. Anne finished the ensemble with elegant vintage Van Cleef & Arpels accessories; a glossy ring and a golden clutch.

2012: Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

As you look at this photo, allow one of Hollywood’s leading ladies to brighten the red carpet with a display of vibrancy in this silk-shaped Versace gown. The star elevates this look by merging the Versace pumps with this elegant garment and the Christian Louboutin clutch matched to the red fold detail on the collar. This full fashion-forward attire was unique to the actress’s typical choice of dress; however, the signature long leg peeking through the gathered slit at the hip was essential for the lasting charm of Jolie. This dress is still and will always be memorable!

2013: Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

Jennifer Lawrence may have been given the trophy for her Silver Linings Playbook performance in 2013; however, she earned an award in another category that night in my book; best dressed! This organza creation, painted in a bold red hue made by Dior Haute Couture, screams chic. The bodice is fitted with a golden polished belt that reveals her tiny waist. With its wide ball-skirt and structured bustier, the strapless design paired exceptionally well with her Brian Atwood footwear and exquisite Chopard diamond earrings. Overall perfection from top to bottom.

2014 Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren Collection

In this red cape body-hugging gown from the Ralph Lauren Collection Spring Runway, Lupita Nyong’o conquered the style show on the 2014 Golden Globes red carpet. In this sleek, silk minimalistic dress, the actress impressed spectators and fans as we watched her exude classic sophistication in this look. The selection of delights added to her look, from the shiny Fred Leighton jewels and the Paul Andrew pointed toe heels, improves the overall appearance, and concludes the style in an amazingly gorgeous manner. Impressively iconic.

2015: Emma Stone in Lanvin

For many of the women who saw this star pose on the Golden Globes Red Carpet in 2015, Emma Stone was complete style envy. In this crystal bodice jumpsuit by Lanvin, Emma turned heads in this utterly trendy, cool, and relaxed piece. The red-headed bombshell left the look clean with traditional black suede pumps by Christian Louboutin. The outfit was finished with a charming back bow feature that balanced well with the dazzling top. This fashionable jumpsuit is a sweet classic, even though designed five years ago.

2016: Saoirse Ronan in Saint Laurent

Brooklyn breakout star Saoirse Ronan looked effortlessly angelic in this white chiffon dress that flowed seamlessly from head to toe. Glorifying a Greek goddess’s look, Saoirse posed in this pure white draped ensemble with its plunging V-neckline and A-line silhouette. Her minimal makeup and simple glistening Chopard earrings, and pear-cut ring complemented the gown’s elegant style. Ronan absolutely graced the floor with this clean and polished ivory silk masterpiece and glowed all night in this Saint Laurent beauty that will always remain a timeless look.

2017: Zendaya in Marchesa

Zendaya made a huge splash in Marchesa’s flared burgundy gown at her first big awards ceremony; the dress boasted a spectacular triple-tier design and was the perfect piece for the young star. Zendaya dominated one of the biggest fashion events in the romantic floral embroidered dress that complimented her skin tone to perfection. The addition of Ruthie Davis Trophy sandals coupled with the gown heightened the overall appearance. Her hair and beauty technique was also remarkable; the loosely swept locks tucked behind her ears accentuated her flawless makeup and coordinated well with the dress fabric’s tone. This was Zendaya’s debut red carpet, and she undoubtedly created a massive fashion trend that continues to live on today!

2018: Alison Brie in Vassilis Zoulias

Alison Brie poised the red carpet at the 2018 Golden Globe awards, which had been flooded by an assortment of stunning black outfits in recognition of the Times Up movement. Brie had selected a black sweetheart neck jumpsuit with a large train from the respectable Greek fashion house, Vassilis Zoulias. If it wasn’t for the open slit, one could almost mistake this garment for a ballgown! The ladylike design raised a touch of drama while retaining beautiful simplicity. The complete look with the flowing voluminous skirt, the glamorous diamond necklace, and the sleek updo drew together an expertly sophisticated appearance.

2019: Gemma Chan in Valentino

In this Valentino design, Crazy Rich Asians star won the night’s fashion game in a frock that featured none other than short shorts! I never imagined shorts would be suitable attire for this distinguished event, but Chan is the exception; she transformed the average shorts into a magical haute couture moment that has changed the look ever since. This rich teal halter dress came detailed with a revealing gap at the waist that exposed the shorts and a lot of leg and presented a total high fashion appeal with a touch of fun. This dress was an unconventional pick for the actress, though it kept faithful to the star’s trademark refined charm despite introducing a different twist on the traditional ballgown. Chan partnered the dress with identical colored Christian Louboutin satin pumps, a vibrant red lip, and a basic loose bun that drew together a sexy yet elegant style.

2020: Zoe Kravitz in Saint Laurent

Ultimate trendsetter Zoe Kravitz entered the red carpet in a showstopping polka dot dress that quickly made polka dots the motif of the year. This off-the-shoulder number had three-quarter sleeves coated in alternating black and white polka dots, finished with a sweet bow at the center. Strappy black heels and deep red lipstick strengthened the theme of the look, as well as her pristine selection of gems that added sparkle and maintained the playful vibe the star brought to the evening.
